Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Irish Weekend Surf Forecast

Forecast for Friday 21st February through to Monday 24th February.

Dublin Bay will be hit by a couple of days of big swell and high winds with a couple of quieter days in between. Friday shows the biggest swell for the East coast that I have seen in a while but Sunday looks solid too. Donegal bay will have swell all weekend - big at times with winds ranging from the south to south west. Plenty of wind for wind sport enthusiasts too.

East Coast – Dublin Area

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: Huge swell for the East coast. Dublin bay is showing 4.1 metres at 10 seconds at 10am. This swell will drop off as the day goes on but will remain really big for this side of the country. Winds will be from the south initially but turn more into the south west and drop off as the day goes on giving offshore conditions. Great forecast - get on it!

  • Saturday: Just under 1 metre swell at 11 seconds. Winds from the south west. Not enough swell to get into Dublin bay but there should still be waves down in Wicklow.

  • Sunday: Another big swell forecast for today. At 9 am the swell will be 3.1 metres at 8 seconds and it will continue to increase in size until 11am before slowly dropping through the day. Winds swill switch from SSE initially to SSW by 1pm. Making more spots offshore. Great day for surfing on the East coast.

  • Monday: 1 metre swell at 10 seconds initially but will drop as the day goes on. Not enough to get Dublin bay going but there should be waves down in Wicklow. Winds will be from the WSW giving offshore conditions.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: Very windy at 9am. 21-40 knots from the SSW. Wind will drop as the day goes on so get on it early. Epic conditions for all wind sports but that wont last so get on it early.

  • Saturday: Only really windy between 11am and 4pm. 14-23 knots initially dropping to 12-21 knots by 3pm. Nice conditions if you can get out in this window.

  • Sunday: Lots of wind again today. 21-38 knots from the SSE at 9am turning into the SSW at around 12pm and dropping slightly. Great day for all wing, windsurf or kit in Dublin bay.

  • Monday: 10-20 knots from the WSW for pretty much the whole day. Fun conditions on bigger gear.

West Coast – Donegal Bay

Surf Forecast

  • Friday: Forecast is for solid surf today but there is a lot of south in it so north facing spots are not getting that much so far. The Peak should be solid though just unfortunately wind affected. On the charts its showing 2.8 metres at 16 seconds from the west with southerly winds all day.

  • Saturday: 2.9 metres at 15 seconds from the west building through the day. Wind is from the south west the whole day. Everything depends on how south the swell really goes. There will be waves in the north west for sure though.

  • Sunday: 2.6 metres at 14 seconds from the WSW. Winds very strong from the south to SSW. Again it really depends on the angles as to how much swell will get into various parts of the north west. Less on Easky coast - much more towards Bundoran.

  • Sunday: Chunky 4.2 metre swell at 16 seconds from the west. Winds from the south west. To get clean conditions we will need that swell to wrap around into more tucked away spots.

Wind Forecast

  • Friday: 16-25 knots from the SSW for much of the day, turning more southerly and increasing towards late afternoon. Good forecast.

  • Saturday: 17-24 knots from the south west for most of the day. Another good wind sport forecast.

  • Sunday: Very windy today with winds in the 24-40 knot range for most of the day. Direction will be southerly turning more SSW in the afternoon. Great conditions for more advanced riders.

  • Monday: 17-24 knots from the SSW from early morning through to 3pm when it drops off quite quickly. Another good forecast!

NB: This is all subject to change at short notice. This being Ireland weather systems are volatile and a forecast made even the night before can change over night. Hopefully this forecast blog can give a good prediction of what will happen in the days ahead so you can plan the days you look to go on the water but it is always a good idea to check more location specific forecasting models before you go both to know what equipment to bring and for safety.
